Check out our ideas to make you want to leave your bed every morning to walk all the way to your desk in the other room!
💺 Comfort is everything
If it’s a place you’re going to spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, you really should spend time making it inviting and comfortable. This starts with a good adjustable chair with back support, a desk with enough space for your electronics and paperwork, and possibly a footrest and keyboard wrist support. Your posture is important so having an external screen is a must to avoid arching your back all day long on a laptop. Once you’ve shopped at IKEA or any other furniture store for a new chair and possibly a new desk, get a Tasker to assemble everything for you.

📺 Keep distractions at a distance
If you have enough space in your home, try to keep anything that could easily distract you in another room, or at least not in your field of vision. So your Playstation and TV are not welcome in your home office. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t allow some distractions during the day…
📕 Escape in reading
One of the silver linings of working from home is making your own schedule. If you need a 20 min break, just take it. Your instinct will draw you toward checking social media on your phone. That’s fine. But take a break from the screen as well. So having a small library in your home office filled with magazines or your collection of comic books can be a good idea if you just need a brief pause from the endless slack messages. Our 10 easy tips to create the perfect home library.
🪴 Plenty of plants
Plants have many benefits. They will purify your air for one, and they’re also pretty to look at. But that’s not all. A study from The Royal College of Agriculture in England demonstrated that the attentiveness of students grew by 70% when they were taught in rooms with plants. So bring some green to get the brainstorming going.
🖌 Reveal your inner decorator
Give some love to your home office. Think about your previous workplace: weren’t you more excited to go to work when you liked the look and the feng shui of the office? Hang some art or personal photos on the wall, some shelves with souvenirs brought back from your trips abroad, and make sure you have nice lighting by investing in a desk lamp.

💻 Think about your Zoom background
Let’s face it, we’re all a bit curious about our colleagues’ Zoom, slack or Google Meet backgrounds. Some are fancy, some are basic, and some are cat-filled. So do you want your coworkers to see a messy home with work documents pilled up on clothes, or nicely arranged shelves and a well-organised workstation?
