It might seem like a big task, but hiding wires and cables can be simple if you know how. That’s why we’ve rounded up some top tips from our Taskers to help you cover up those cables and start living clutter free.

How to hide cables

There are loads of quick and easy ways to hide your cables, from disguising them with a lick of paint to using clever trunking techniques. Read on to learn about each tried and tested method in detail.

Clip cables to the furniture

Cable clips are a brilliant way to hide TV wires and other cables behind furniture. You can find self adhesive ones on Amazon or in DIY stores for less than a fiver and they simply stick to your furniture without causing any damage.

Start by holding the clips in place for 30 seconds to make sure they are properly stuck to your sofa/TV stand/furniture of choice. Then clip in your unsightly wires and run them neatly along the back of the furniture to keep them safe and hidden.

Use cable covers

Cable covers or trunking are great for covering up the TV cables that dangle from your wall mounted TV. Self adhesive ones are easy to install and can be painted into your wall for an even neater finish.

To make sure you buy the right length of cable cover, measure from the base of your TV screen to the floor. You can also buy a standard size length and cut it down to size with a hacksaw. Always make sure to wear protective gloves when using a sharp blade, or call in an experienced Tasker to help

You’ll then need to mount the base of the cable cover to the wall before running the cables through the base and clipping on the cover.

Paint your cables into the wall

It sounds simple, but covering up your cables with a lick of paint can be a quick and effective way to neaten up a room.

If you already have spare paint to match the walls that’s great, otherwise you can easily match your wall colour at Johnstones or a DIY store (you should only need a sample pot). Just paint the cable into the wall (or hire a Tasker to do it for you) and job done!

How do you hide wires in a wall?

Hiding wires in the wall requires a bit more skill, but it’s a sure-fire way to remove your cables from sight.

First you’ll need to purchase two recessed cable plates, which you can find on Amazon for around £10. You then need to carefully remove your TV from the wall and use a stud finder to locate two stud-free sections – one behind where the TV sits and one further down the wall near a plug socket.

Once you’ve established where the stud-free sections are, you need to make a small hole in the wall at each spot to fit the cable plates. You can do this with a utility knife, or hire a local Tasker to help you

Now your cable plates are fitted, all that’s left to do is feed the wires into the hole behind the TV and out of the hole by the plug socket.

Keep it tidy with tubing

If the wires in your home office keep getting tangled, then flexible cable tubing is just the thing to keep them tidy and protected.

Consolidate your wires into one tube by collecting them in your hand and wrapping the tubing around for a tangle-free zone.

Get creative with your storage solutions

Tidy away your loose wires in stylish storage solutions like baskets or drawers.

Make a small hole in your drawer to feed the cables through, or take the base out of a basket and place it on a shelf close to your electronics. You can then tuck away your cables and bulky items like your router.

What’s the easiest way to hide wires?

There are lots of creative solutions when it comes to keeping your cables out of sight, but if you’re looking for the easiest way then opt for simply painting over your wires or clipping them to the back of furniture.
